CRB works with Dialogue Youth to help Tayside Contracts adopt the .Young Scot - Dialogue Youth. smartcard for its IMPACT cashless catering system in Dundee.

After successfully operating the IMPACT cashless catering system in 24 schools over recent years, Tayside Contracts have recently replaced the traditional magnetic strip cards with the ‘Young Scot - Dialogue Youth’ proximity smartcards in St John’s School in Dundee.

Tayside were keen to participate in the ‘Young Scot - Dialogue Youth’ scheme and, having experienced the benefits of cashless catering, asked CRB Solutions to explore the possibility of replacing the magnetic strip cards previously used to operate IMPACT with the multi-purpose Dialogue Youth proximity smartcard.

After working with representatives of Dialogue Youth, CRB Solutions were able to modify their revaluation units, POS units and networked vending machines to enable them to read the Dialogue Youth smartcard. The modification programme involved replacing the traditional magnetic-strip swipecard readers with proximity readers able to read the embedded chip in the Dialogue Youth smartcards.

All pupils in St John’s schools were issued with a Dialogue Youth smartcards which they now use not just for Dialogue Youth purposes but also to pay for school meals and to manage their school meals account.

The trial seems to be a roaring success and plans are afoot to use the Dialogue Youth smartcard for cashless catering purposes in more schools in Tayside in the future. After visiting St John’s School, representatives of Dumfries and Galloway have elected to use similar cards, part of the Young Scot Card scheme to drive their first cashless catering system in Castle Douglas High School.
